The Oakland Police Department is presenting this free, 5 week course in an effort to educate our citizens and give them an opportunity to observe and understand law enforcement with a "hands-on" approach. Police officers and staff members will present condensed versions of actual police training to provide the student with an overall view in a variety of topics. Classes include demonstrations, discussions, practical exercises and student participation to achieve a "hands-on" experience.

Department presentations may include the following:

• Dispatch Communications
• Canine Unit
• Crime Prevention
• Traffic Enforcement
• DUI Investigations
• Crime Scene Investigations
• Homeland Security
• Patrol
• Arrest Procedures
• Narcotics
• Special Response Team
• Felony Investigations

The Citizens Police Academy is the Oakland Police Department's effort to build bridges within our community. Our hope is that with learning will come understanding, and with understanding will come an abiding respect for those who wear the badge.

Class size is limited to 15 students. Applications can be picked up and returned at Oakland Town Hall located at 170 Doss Circle. Applications can also be printed off of the Town of Oakland website, www.oaklandtennessee.org.
